Myanmar to relax visa for Turkish businessmen

NAY PYI TAW, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will relax visa requirement for Turkish businessmen intending to invest in the country and related work on the measure is starting, Myanmar Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi told a joint press conference with her visiting Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Nay Pyi Taw after their meeting.

Myanmar and Turkey have so far no embassies opened in each other's country.

The discussions between the two foreign ministers covered mutual opening of the foreign offices, promotion of trade, Turkey's participation in infrastructural building in the fields of education, health and culture during the political change period, the two FMs said.

Noting that the two countries have only 38 million U.S. dollars' trade, the two sides called for efforts to enhance their bilateral trade.

Cavusoglu proposed Turkish airline to fly Myanmar, inviting Suu Kyi to visit Turkey.

Cavusoglu also pledged to help Bengali refugees sheltered in Myanmar's western Rakhine state as rainy season has set in, voicing support to fulfill their requirements in cooperation with Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) in accordance with the arrangement of the Myanmar government and local authorities.

Aung San Suu Kyi stressed that the government is trying its utmost to make the situation in Rakhine state better, thanking Cavusoglu for his understanding.

During his two-day visit, Cavusoglu also met with Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw in Nay Pyi Taw earlier on Monday before leaving for Rakhine state on a regional trip.
