ISTANBUL, June 12 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and another wounded on Sunday when an explosion hit a building in central Istanbul, but the cause is not known yet, Turkish media reported.
The explosion happened in an unoccupied flat of a building in the Cihangir neighbourhood of Beyoglu district, according to the reports.
The body of a street vendor was found under the cement fallen from the building, the Hurriyet daily said.
A taxi driver was heavily injured when the cement hit his car, the daily said.
The cause of the explosion is not immediately known, but it was thought to be sparked by a gas leak, according to Hurriyet.
The flat is rented by a Greek national who works for the Greek consulate general, the daily said.
Istanbul has been rocked by a series of bombing attacks in recent months, with the latest one killing 11 last week.
