ANKARA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkey has issued a temporary ban on the sale of fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate, following car bomb attacks targeting Istanbul and another town in the past two days, Turkish daily Haberturk reported Thursday.

According to the report, the ban was instituted to prevent militant groups from getting ammonium nitrate to make bombs.

Other security measures include randomly installing tracking chips in packs of fertilizers containing ammonium nitrate and the requirement that retailers submit distribution documents.

Sales of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders will also be subject to security restrictions, Haberturk added.

In the latest major bombing attack, which struck a police headquarters in Midyat, a district in Turkey's southeastern Mardin province on Wednesday, three police officers and three civilians were killed. About 30 others were injured in the car bombing.

Only one day before that, on Tuesday, 11 people were killed after a car bomb targeting a police vehicle exploded in central Istanbul.
