KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Armed militants intercepted a bus along a main roadway in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz on Wednesday, kidnapping several passengers, sources said.

"Armed men stopped a long-distance bus in Ludin area, Khan Abad District along Kunduz-Takhar highway early morning, the gunmen took at least 47 passengers to nearby villages while three commuters safely fled the scene," a security official told Xinhua.

Shir Aziz Kamawal, commander of Afghan National Police 808 Spin Zaar Zone based in the region, confirmed the incident.

"We are aware of the incident. The security forces have already arrived at the site and efforts are underway to secure safe release of the travelers," Kamawal told Xinhua.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.

Over one dozen civilians were killed after in a kidnapping attack in Kunduz late last month.

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Armed militants intercepted a bus along a main roadway in Afghanistan's northern province of Kunduz on Wednesday, kidnapping several passengers, sources said.

"Armed men stopped a long-distance bus in Ludin area, Khan Abad District along Kunduz-Takhar highway early morning, the gunmen took at least 47 passengers to nearby villages while three commuters safely fled the scene," a security official told Xinhua.
