WARSAW, June 7 (Xinhua) -- More than 12,000 parachute troops from Poland, United States and Great Britain landed in Torun training ground, northern Poland on Tuesday, within the major military exercise, Anakonda 2016.

The operation was also a part of airborne military troops exercise, Swift Response.

Main reason for the Torun operation was demonstrating the U.S. and NATO quick response to threats as well as ability to concentrate considerable forces in possibly shortest time. The paratroop landing included both men and equipment and was carried from a 400-meter height.

The U.S. Army Chief of Staff, General Mark Milley said this exercise is important as far as verifying readiness and interoperability of various countries' forces is concerned.

Anakonda 2016, a major military exercise of NATO forces, began on Monday. It is the biggest exercise of this type in Poland since 1989 year, including around 31,000 soldiers from 18 NATO countries.

This year's edition marks an ally exercise focused on creating security in a transparent manner. The exercise also checks the multidimensional efficiency, including the non-military elements as well as cooperation with the territorial defense subdivisions.

Apart from the NATO countries, Ukrainian forces took part in the exercise as a partner country. Enditem
