BRUSSELS, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The first infection case of Zika virus was confirmed in Luxembourg, the Department of Health of the Grand Duchy said Tuesday.

A woman aged 65, residing in Luxembourg, contracted the virus during a trip to Mexico, according to an official statement.

She was not hospitalized and is feeling well. The infected person is therefore in no transmission risk to public health, the statement said.

It should be noted that the mosquito vector of virus (Aedes albupictus) does not exist in Luxembourg, the agency added.

The virus is more serious if it affects a pregnant woman. In this case, it may be responsible for malformations of the central nervous system of the embryo (microcephaly). Enditem
