BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Super League (CSL) club Shandong Luneng announced Tuesday on microblog Weibo that its coach Mano Menezes' resigned.
Luneng said the club's board of directors had decided to accept Menezes' resignation due to his personal reasons after friendly negotiations. The club is grateful that the Brazilian coach led Luneng to the top eight of the Asian Champions League (ACL), it added.
The Chinese coach group led by former Chinese men's international Li Xiaopeng will take over the team temporarily, the club said.
Although the former Brazil national football manager led the side to the quarter-finals of the ACL, his team was underperforming this season in CSL and failed to achieve a single win in six consecutive rounds.
The 53-year-old coach took over Luneng last December before the 2016 CSL season.
Until now, Luneng had two wins, three draws and six losses after 11 rounds and sat at the remote 15th place in the 16-team top flight league. Enditem
