Nigerian leader Buhari takes medical leave to treat ear infection in London

ABUJA, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari on Monday jetted out of the West African country to treat a "persistent ear infection" in London, a presidency statement said.

Buhari took a 10-day medical vacation to embark on the trip to London, where he will see an ear, nose and throat specialist for proper medicare.

"The President was examined by his personal physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja and was treated. Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution," the statement signed by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said.

Local media reports earlier suggested that the president was recently prevented from making scheduled trips within Nigeria and outside the country due to the "ear infection."
