Oil tanker fire seriously injures one in east Thailand

BANGKOK, June 6 (Xinhua)-- An oil tanker Monday caught fire near the Laem Chabang port in east Thailand, seriously injuring one,local media reported.

The accident occurred at around 3:40 p.m. local time when the 20,000-ton oil tanker was pulling in to shore. One 24-year-old Thai worker was seriously injured, suffering from a burn covering 80 percent of his body. He was hospitalized.

Police has cordoned off the area. Four fire fighters were sent to put out the fire. Water and firefighter foam were used to handle with the blaze.

The fire is extinguished now. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Laem Chabang is home to Thailand's largest port, about 25 kilometers north of eastern Thailand's famous tourism destination Pattaya. The port occupies 2,572 acres and is capable of handling huge vessels.
