Vietnam files criminal case of deadly boat accident in central city

HANOI, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Local authorities on Monday filed a criminal case of a boat capsizal which claims three deaths in Vietnam's central Da Nang city on Saturday night.

Tran Muu, deputy chief of Da Nang Police, was quoted by local VNExpress online newspaper that the case will be investigated against violation of regulations on driving waterway transport vehicles.

"In addition to responsibility of the boat owner and boat driver, we will examine other related individuals and organizations with perspective of drastic handling," said Muu.

On Monday, while chairing a meeting with relevant agencies on the boat accident, Da Nang Municipal People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho suspended work of director of Da Nang Port Authority (DPA) and head of DPA's terminal management team.

On Tuesday, Da Nang Police will establish a working group for scene examination. After being taken initial testimonies by border guards, boat owner and boat driver will be transferred to police, reported VNExpress.

The tourist boat with 56 people on board capsized in Han River in Da Nang city on Saturday night. There were 56 people on board the boat when the accident happened. As many as 53 were rescued while three others were killed.

Da Nang is a famous tourism destination in Vietnam, located at some 600 km south of capital Hanoi.
