Burkina Faso to air television series to fight corruption

OUAGADOUGOU, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Anti-corruption campaigners over the weekend launched a television series in Ouagadougou that is aimed at sensitizing the population on the vice and denounce graft in Burkina Faso where the phenomenon is becoming rampant.

Dubbed "Stop Corruption," the series of 26 episodes, each for 26 minutes, is produced by the National Anti-Corruption Network (REN-LAC).

The airing will start on June 18, "It will make the students to be able to understand the phenomenon of corruption so that they can be able to fight it," the initiators said.

Speaking during the the launch ceremony, Burkina Faso's Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thieba said his government has demonstrated "political willingness" to fight corruption.

Since 2015 when the country was led by a transition government, several actions were taken to fight against corruption which is rampant in Burkina Faso's public and private sectors, making the country to lose hundreds of millions of CFA Francs each year.

On April 28, Burkina Faso government banned civil servants from receiving any gift that is valued over 35,000 CFA Francs (53 euros).
