DAR ES SALAAM, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian police have arrested an army officer and seized 10 pieces of ivory, put at 100,000 U.S. dollars, from his car.
Simon Sirro, the Dar es Salaam special zone police commander, said the sergeant and two accomplices were arrested in the city of Dar es Salaam during a police patrol on Thursday.
An investigation is under way, the police officer told a news conference on Friday.
The Tanzanian government has committed itself to curbing poaching to protect elephants in the country. Enditem
