Iran welcomes China's involvement in oil, gas projects: official

TEHRAN, May 15 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian energy official said here Sunday that Tehran regards Beijing as a reliable partner and welcomes the partnership with major Chinese firms for developing its oil and gas fields in a competitive atmosphere, Iran's Petro Energy Information Network reported.

"China is a strategic partner for Iran and we are seeking to enhance our relations with this country," deputy oil minister for international affairs, Amir Hossein Zamaninia, was quoted as saying.

China-Iran relations are at its best status possible, he said, adding that over the past years "China has played an influential role in developing Iran's oil industry."

Zamaninia expressed hope that Iran-China relationships in oil, gas, refining and petrochemical industries will improve in the post-sanctions era.

Earlier this year, the United States and European nations lifted oil and financial sanctions on Iran based on a nuclear deal reached last July.
