BARCELONA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona's player Lionel Messi has been named Huawei global ambassador, local media reported on Friday.

The football player is the company's Global Brand Ambassador because Huawei believed the striker and the company make "a perfect fit" as both "are always pursuing not success, but challenges, to be better".

Walter Ji, President of Consumer Business Group at Huawei Western Europe said that Messi "is passionate about his sport and we share this passion when it comes to our products and making consumers' life easier, smarter and more entertaining".

According to Huawei, "Lionel's history, philosophy and values, the greatest football player in the world, are in line with Huawei's mission and values".

"You have to fight to reach your dream. You have to sacrifice and go all in, always looking forward to achieving greatness", the Barcelona striker said, adding that "the day you think there are no improvements to be made, you have to keep working and reach for the next achievements".

Huawei emphasized their commitment to the sports world as it enriches people's lives, pointing out that in the last years they have invested in various football teams, such as Atletico de Madrid or Arsenal, and in players, such as Robert Lewandowski, Alexis Sanchez and Lionel Messi.

Huawei is one of the top 3 Smartphone manufactures in the world and their products are available in more than 170 countries.
