RIYADH, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir said on Wednesday that his country will participate in Vienna talks on Friday on the Syrian crisis, Saudi Press Agency reported.
The talks aimed to test intentions of Russia and Iran, the main supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government, for a peace agreement, the minister told a news conference he attended with his British counterpart Philip Hammond.
Hammond said the two-day talks will also focus on the future of Syrian President Assad, one of the core issues that would decide the kind of future the war-torn country could expect.
On Oct. 23, foreign ministers of Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey held a session of talks on solving the Syrian crisis in Vienna, and agreed to hold another meeting this week with a broader participation of regional and key countries.
Early Wednesday, Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif confirmed his country will join the talks, which are expected to be the first time all major countries related to the four-and-half-year war will participate.
The conflict in Syria has killed more than 250,000 people and displayed 11 million.
