RIYADH, Oct. 28. (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia arrested 49 suspects in connection with a deadly shooting at Shiite gathering earlier this month, Al Arabiya News reported on Wednesday.
The attack took place on Oct. 16 when a gunman opened fire at a Shiite community center in Saihat district in the Qatif area of Eastern Province, leaving five people dead.
The Saudi Shiites were marking Ashura anniversary, one of the holiest occasions of the Shiite faith.
The attacker was shot dead by Saudi police.
The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Saudi authorities have so far arrested 4,947 people over terror charges.
During the Ashura season last year, five Shiite Muslims were killed and nine others injured when masked men opened fire at them near a gathering in Ahsa.
