BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent messages of condolences to his counterparts in both Afghanistan and Pakistan over a powerful earthquake that so far claimed over 360 people.
The magnitude-7.8 earthquake with a depth of 210 km hit Hindu Kush mountain range in northern Afghanistan at 0909 GMT on Monday, according to China Earthquake Networks Center, with strong tremors felt in Pakistan and India.
In his message to Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Xi said China and Afghanistan share a traditional friendship and the Chinese people are saddened by the losses of life and property in Afghanistan in the earthquake.
Meanwhile, in his message to Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain, Xi said that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners of cooperation and the Chinese people also feel the pains of the Pakistani people in the face of the disaster.
The Chinese leader pledged to provide the two countries assistance if needed, expressing the belief that the two countries can overcome the aftermath of the disaster and rebuild their homelands.

ISLAMABAD/KABUL, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani government, army and charity organizations continued rescue efforts on Tuesday after a powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake killed 350 people in the country and neighboring Afghanistan on Monday.
Local media reported the death toll in northwestern Pakistan has already crossed 270 with over 2,000 injured. However, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed 230 deaths and 1,629 injuries. Full Story
Children face "further deadly threats" in earthquake-hit Afghanistan, Pakistan: UNICEF
UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned on Tuesday that children in earthquake-hit areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan are facing "further deadly threats as extreme conditions and insecurity cut off communities from aid."
Around 200 people people died, including 12 school girls, and around 1,000 were injured after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan's northeastern region, which also rattled people in Pakistan, India and Tajikistan. Full Story
WHO voices concern over health ramifications of Afghanistan, Pakistan quake
GENEVA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday voiced concern on increasing health needs after the massive earthquake struck the mountainous border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The 7.5 magnitude earthquake was centered in Jurm district of northeastern Afghanistan's Badakhshan's province, and was felt across the region. Full Story
