TOKYO, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher on Wednesday as buying took the upper hand after losses in the previous day and the outcome of a U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting due later the day still weighed on the market.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 139.97 points, or 0.75 percent, from Tuesday to 18,917.01.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 5.83 points, or 0.38 percent, at 1,548.94.
