Arsenal, Chelsea out of League Cup

LONDON, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Both Arsenal and holders Chelsea were unable to pass the fourth round of the English League Cup on Tuesday.

Arsenal suffered a surprise loss to Championship team Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 while Chelsea were sent packing with a 5-4 penalty shootout loss at Stoke after the teams finished 1-1.

Ross Wallace, Lucas Joao and Sam Hutchinson scored to send Wednesday to the quarter-finals of England's second-tier club competition.

Arsenal, level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League,lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott to injuries in the

first 20 minutes.

Jonathan Walters gave hosts Stoke a second-half lead but Loic Remy rescued Chelsea in injury time.

The first nine shooters were all on target before Jack Butland denied Eden Hazard and sent the holders out.

Hull was the second Championship team to knock off a Premier League side on the night with a 5-4 shootout win over Leicester.

Everton also advanced on penalties over Norwich 4-3.
