Turkish police detain 30 suspected IS militants

English.news.cn   2015-10-27 15:45:48

ANKARA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Police detained 30 suspected Islamic State (IS) militants early Tuesday in central Turkey, private Dogan News Agency reported.

The suspects were captured in simultaneous raids in two districts of Konya province in central Turkey, the report said, adding that the operations are still ongoing.

On Monday, securities forces killed seven suspected IS militants in raids on several houses in the predominantly Kurdish southeastern province of Diyarbakir. Two police officers were killed in action.

It was not immediately clear if the operations were linked to two suicide bombings on Oct. 10 that killed 102 people and injured many others in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

One of the bombers in the Ankara blasts was identified as an IS member whose brother conducted a suicide attack in July in Suruc, a town near the Syrian border.

Thirty three people were killed and about 100 others injured in the Suruc bombing, which was also blamed on the IS.
