RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stands the best chance in 2018 presidential elections, according to an Ibope poll released on Monday.
Despite numerous corruption scandals of his party, Lula enjoyed 23 percent of voting intentions, according to the pool.
Aecio Neves from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), who lost to President Dilma Rousseff in last year's presidential elections, has 15 percent of support.
Marina Silva from the Sustainability Network, who ranked the third in the 2014 elections, appeared in the third place in the poll with 11 percent of voting intentions.
Former presidential candidates Jose Serra and Geraldo Alckmin, both from the PSDB, have 8 and 7 percent of voting intentions respectively. Both of them lost to Lula in past elections, Serra in 2002 and Alckmin in 2006.
Despite Lula's leading position in the poll, he remains the most polarized figure among the presidential hopefuls. He was rejected by 55 percent of the respondents in the poll, alarmingly high for a president who left office in 2010 with an approval rate of 83 percent. In a previous poll in May 2014, Lula's rejection rate was much lower at 33 percent.
