25 people evacuated from fire in north London

LONDON, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- A fire broke out on Finchley Road in north London on Monday, affecting a shop with flats above it and leading to the evacuation of 25 people, the London Fire Brigade said Monday.

The fire affected a mobile phone repair shop and three storeys of flats above the shop were heavily burned and smoke logged.

Twenty three people were led to safety from the flats and two other people, including a pregnant woman, were rescued from the roof of the building by a turntable ladder, according to the London Fire Brigade.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
