SOFIA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The prime ministers of Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania jointly announced here on Saturday that they will not allow their countries to become a buffer zone for refugees.
If Germany, Austria and other countries close their borders, the three Balkan countries will not agree to become a buffer zone for refugee flows located between Turkey and fences that will follow after Serbia, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told a joint press conference.
"We will be ready in the same way to close our borders at the same moment," Borissov announced the joint position of the three countries, which will be expressed on Sunday at an EU special summit on tackling migration that will be held in Brussels.
"We will not put our countries on the devastating pressures of millions who would come," Borissov said.
The intensive building of fences in Europe worried Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania, and the three countries were worried about how far the refugee wave would reach, Borissov said.

UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The first winter weather, including freezing temperatures, rain and storms, has arrived in many parts of Central and South Eastern Europe and is already affecting refugees and migrants arriving or transiting through those areas, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters here Friday.
"The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has responded by distributing raincoats, blankets and basic relief items. Between now and February 2016, and subject to funding being available, winter relief packages will be distributed to the most vulnerable," Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here. "Winter plans also include targeted provision of emergency shelters including family tents, refugee housing units and emergency reception facilities, and supporting efforts to improve reception and waiting areas and preparing or adapting them to winter conditions." Croatian, Serbian ministers agree mechanism for solving refugee crisis at border
ZAGREB, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The interior ministers of Croatia and Serbia agreed on Friday a mechanism for solving the refugee crisis.
Croatian Interior Minister Ranko Ostojic, who met with his Serbian counterpart Nebojsa Stefanovic at the Bajakovo border crossing, said they agreed that refugees would be transported directly from Serbian border town of Sid by trains to Croatian town of Slavonski Brod where a winter transit center would be completed soon. German Interior Minister says progress made on Transit zones for refugees
BERLIN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The German coalition government has agreed in principle to the establishment of the controversial transit zones for refugees on the German border, German media reported on Friday.
