Magnitude 3.9 earthquake strikes off Australia's east coast

SYDNEY, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake of 3.9 magnitude struck just off the coast of Queensland, to the north of Brisbane on Friday morning.

The quake, which struck at 6:45 a.m. local time, was felt near Hervey Bay, posing no tsunami threat to Australia's mainland, islands or territories, the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said in a statement.

Earlier in October, a 4.3 magnitude quake was recorded in Western Australia while in September a 4.8 quake occurred off Australia's southern coastline.
