BRATISLAVA, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Slovakia is sending 50 police officers to neighbouring Hungary to protect Schengen area borders between Hungary and Serbia amid the ongoing migration crisis.
"It's a great representation of Slovakia and also a pragmatic contribution in the way that is pragmatic when we for some time, temporarily keep those seeking asylum in Austria," stressed Prime Minister Robert Fico on Tuesday in Bratislava.
According to Slovak Police Corps President Tibor Gaspar, it's the most numerous police squad to have ever operated abroad.
The officers will be patrolling in fours, together with Hungarian, Czech and Polish counterparts. A total of 170 officers are coming to aid Hungary, with the Czechs sending 50 police officers and Poland 70.
"Such decision by the Visegrad Group countries surprised the counterparts in the European Union," added Fico.
