BRUSSELS, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Construction output in the 19-country eurozone came in weaker in August after a rebound in the previous month, official data showed Monday.
The seasonally-adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 0.2 percent month-on-month in the euro area, said Eurostat, the statistics agency of the EU. The reading reversed a 0.4 percent increase in July.
The monthly decrease in construction output in the euro area was due to civil engineering activity falling by 0.3 percent and building construction by 0.2 percent, said the agency.
On a yearly basis, the construction output in August in the single currency bloc slumped by 6 percent.
In the wider EU, construction output saw a month-on-month fall by 1.2 percent and dipped 5 percent compared to last year.
Among member states, the largest monthly decreases were recorded in Slovakia (down 5 percent), Britain (falling 4.8 percent), and Slovenia (down 4.5 percent).
The highest monthly increases were seen in Portugal, (0.9 percent gain), Poland and France, both rising 0.6 percent.
