BOGOTA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- A light plane crashed here on Sunday afternoon in a residential neighborhood, killing five people and wounding six, according to Colombian authorities.
The plane, with registration number HK-3917, hit the ground in the Bogota western neighborhood of Engativa with four people aboard at 4:20 p.m. local time (2120 GMT) after taking off, according to a statement released by the Civil Aeronautics authority.
It was bound from El Dorado Airport bound for Guaymaral municipality.
The police confirmed the casualties after the Civil Aeronautics authorities had said that seven people were injured including pilot Juan Pablo Angulo Reyes.
The accident occurred at the intersection of the 77th road and street 65 near the airport over a bakery and three houses. rescuers and Firefighters are trying to take the bodies off the place and put out the fire caused by the crash.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
Back in 1993, an airplane carrying then Director of the Civil Aeronautics Fernando Corrales Cruz crashed in the area, killing all crew aboard, including four children, and left 13 seriously injured.
