SYDNEY, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Australian authorities on Monday are continuing their search for a British backpacker on Sydney's northern beaches after he was last seen going for swim at 7p.m. local time on Saturday.
The 31-year-old had only arrived in Australia a week ago had been celebrating with friends at the notorious South Curl Curl beach on his last day in the country.
A New South Wales Police spokesperson told Xinhua on Monday that police divers, helicopters and local rescue crews had resumed searching for the man who was last seen 100 meters from shore on Saturday evening.
The notorious South Curl-Curl beach is one of the most hazardous in Sydney with a history of several drownings, including from rock fisherman.
The beach is also famous for having a sudden drop into deep water inducing strong rip currents that are the cause of several rescues from local authorities each day.
