DHAKA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formally released a commemorative postage stamp, marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between his country and China.

The postage stamp released on Saturday features a picture of a handshake between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President Xi Jinping with both national flags, image of Bangladeshi founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, China's Great Wall and Bangladesh's National Martyrs' Memorial.

The Bangladeshi prime minister also released a first-day cover and a data card also marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim, acting Foreign Secretary Rear Admiral (retd) Md Khurshid Alam, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim, Director General of Bangladesh Post Office ABM Humayun, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ma Mingqiang and Director of Bangladesh Post Office Md Faujul Azim attended the releasing ceremony.

The postage stamp and the first-day cover is 10 taka denomination each while the data card is of 5 taka denomination.

Bangladesh and China officially established diplomatic relations on Oct. 4, 1975.

Since then the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries have been growing soundly and smoothly. Fruitful cooperation has been achieved in the fields of politics, economy, military and culture, etc.

The two countries also share common views on most international and regional issues and have conducted close coordination with each other in the international arena.

Frequent exchanges of high-level visits, increasing contacts as well as cooperation expansion in various fields between the two countries have also been witnessed.
