SHANGHAI, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- A defender fainted after being kicked in the face by his teammate while both were clearing the ball during a Chinese Super League (CSL) match on Saturday.
Shanghai Greenland defender Li Jianbin cleared the ball with an overhead kick and his foot met with teammate Xiong Fei's face.
Shanghai club said on its Weibo that Xiong fell down to the ground and lost his consciousness for a while before team doctors rushed to the rescue.
The club said Xiong's face suffered a bad cut while Li was also injured as Xiong's boot spikes landed on his foot.
"Both of them are hospitalized now," said the club, adding that Xiong may need 20 to 30 stitches on his face.
Shanghai won the match 3-0 over Changchun. E
