BEIRUT, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian official expressed Friday his country's support to the ongoing national dialogue between the Lebanese feuding parties, downplaying claims by some Lebanese sides that Iran is impeding Lebanon's presidential elections.
"We voiced our complete support for the political and national dialogue between the rivals," Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told reporters after talks with Lebanon's Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.
He underlined the importance of reaching a desired solutions in order to implement concrete action.
Lebanon has been without a president since May 2014 after the six-year tenure of President Michel Suleiman ended and the parliament failing in 30 sessions to elect an incumbent.
The pro-western March 14 coalition and Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt continuously accused Tehran of obstructing the presidential elections.
Lawmakers from Hezbollah's bloc and its March 8 allies have been blamed for thwarting a quorum by consistently boycotting parliamentary sessions.
Boroujerdi described the claims about Iran as a "joke," saying that "some sides are apparently bored."
The Iranian official arrived in Beirut after a two-day trip to Damascus, where he met with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
