ACCRA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's state-run news agency has announced the establishment of a specialized Desk devoted to the production and dissemination of news on China and its relations with Ghana and the rest of Africa.

A Ghana News Agency (GNA) report received here Friday quoted its General Manager, Bernard Otabil, as having made this known on Thursday when Wang Sheng, Counselor and Head of Political Section at the Chinese Embassy in Accra, paid a courtesy call on him at the agency's headquarters.

Otabil said with China's ever-growing influence in Africa, there was the need for institutions on both sides to collaborate to meet the information needs of their peoples.

"China is a big space in Ghana and Africa, and the GNA would in its own small way do its best to promote the sharing of information on business and investment opportunities both in Ghana and China for the benefit of the business community," he said.

On his part, Wang observed that this year marked the 55th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between China and Ghana.

He said relations between the two countries had grown from strength to strength over the years, and emphasized the need to strengthen that bond of friendship even further.

He mentioned an agreement of collaboration signed between the Xinhua News Agency of China and the Ghana News Agency in January 2013, and said the Chinese Embassy would work to facilitate the sharing of news and information between the two news agencies.

"There are a lot of positive developments, and I think our focus should be turned on those positive achievements which will enable us to forge a stronger bond of friendship and cooperation between our two countries," he added.
