SHANGHAI, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- World number one Novak Djokovic came through some worrying moments in the opening set to edge past Australian rising star Bernard Tomic in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament on Friday.
Both Djokovic and Tomic played quality tennis in the opening set, with each breaking once earlier but holding serve solid in the remaining games.
The set was finally pushed to tiebreak which saw both still play on a high level. The scoreboard went all the way to 6-all and the Serb put up some sizzling shots for two consecutive points to seal the opening set in one hour mark.
The second set saw a different Tomic as the 22-year-old Australian seemed to run out of steam and showed more signs of rust, while Djokovic, who collected three more Grand Slam titles this year, was still at peak of his game.
After wasting three match points, the Serb sealed the victory 6-1 when Tomic had a double fault on the fourth.
