Chinese, Cambodian TV stations sign cooperation deal in TV drama production

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's Yunnan TV station and the state-run National Television of Cambodia (TVK) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in TV drama production.

The deal was inked between Yang Yuming, general manager of Yunnan Communication Group which owns Yunnan TV station and Radio station, and TVK's general director Kem Gunnawadh.

Yang said under the MoU, the two TV stations will jointly produce episodic drama series for broadcasting on both TV channels.

The two TVs will jointly produce a 42-episodic drama series titled "Love in Angkor" at the famed Angkor Wat Temple in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province next year, he said, adding that Chinese and Cambodian famous stars will jointly perform in the upcoming series.

"It will be the first time that our two countries co-produce this TV drama series," he told reporters after the signing ceremony. "The series will be screened on Chinese TVs, Yunnan TV, and TVK when it is completed."

Gunnawadh said the cooperation between the two TV stations would contribute to developing Cambodia's film industry.

"It's known that China has expertise in producing quality films and Chinese artists are very talented, so joint performance between Chinese and Cambodian artists will not only increase the capacity of Cambodian artists, but also contribute to enhancing cultural and people-to-people relations between the two countries," he said.

He added that under the deal, the Chinese side will also set up a film studio in Cambodia.
