Taiwan's yuan deposits post third consecutive monthly decline

English.news.cn   2015-10-15 22:20:24

TAIPEI, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese yuan-denominated deposits held by Taiwanese banks fell again in September, the third consecutive monthly decline.

According to Thursday's figures by the island's financial agency, the balance of yuan deposits received by local banks' domestic banking offshore units (DBUs) and offshore banking units (OBUs) as of the end of September fell 5.76 billion yuan (about 908 million U.S. dollars) from a month earlier to 321 billion yuan.

Depreciation is expected to continue, which is the major cause of the decline, analysts with the agency said.

Figures showed that yuan-denominated discounts and loans by the end of September reached 20 billion yuan, down 1.51 billion yuan from a month earlier. Yuan-denominated remittances fell to 230 billion yuan, a 43.6-percent decrease compared with August.

Also in September, the amount of RMB settlements of Taiwanese banks handled by the Bank of China's Taipei office totaled 393 billion yuan, a decline of 196 billion yuan month on month.

Taiwan began allowing the yuan-denominated service in February 2013 and first saw a decline on deposits in July.
