WINDHOEK, Oct 15. (Xinhua) -- With the 6th ministerial meeting for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) scheduled in December this year, the Chinese Embassy in Namibia and the University of Namibia (UNAM) co- hosted a seminar in preparation for the forum, to study and analyse the development models of China and Africa.
Speaking at the conference held on Wednesday in Namibia's capital, Windhoek, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Xin Shunkang noted that the seminar was held at an opportune time as scholars discussed and made plans for the future and gave thoughts and advices to the upcoming FOCAC summit.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of FOCAC meeting which will be held on the continent of Africa for the first time, in Durban, South Africa.
"I believe that this seminar will help us to understand more about each other and reach broader common understanding in many fields," he added.
Under the theme of 'The path to success': China-Africa development models, the seminar aimed at making profound suggestions and views on the correct path to success and identifying gaps in the existing relationships, that can be improved to better cooperation, trade and development.
Meanwhile, it focused on Namibia's own development. Xin said that the Sino-Namibian cooperation is making comprehensive progress and Namibia and China share similar connotation and goal of development.
"Since independence, Namibia has been looking for the development path that suits your own condition and has made great achievements in all the fields including politics, economy, environment, health and culture," he said.
According to Xin, Namibia maintains political stability, economic growth and the lift of peoples' well-being,"This makes Namibia a successful model of good governance in the region," he added.
Also speaking at the event, The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research, UNAM, Professor Osmund Mwandemele said positive developments have been made with the Embassy of China in Namibia which include the setting up of the Confucius Institute, which has made great strides in the country.
Mwandemele added that the University continues to benefit from the contribution of China and more developments in culture and research always emerge.
