HONG KONG, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods decreased 5.8 percent in August on-year, while that of domestic exports plunged 18.4 percent, the Census and Statistics Department said on Thursday.
Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods decreased 6 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods dropped by 6.5 percent.
Comparing the first eight months of 2015 with the same period in 2014, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods edged down 1.8 percent, while that of domestic exports shrank 13.2 percent.
The volume of total exports of goods lost 2 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods plunged 2.3 percent.
Comparing the three-month period ending August 2015 with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods jumped 1.8 percent.
Within this total, the volume of re-exports shed 1.8 percent, while that of domestic exports rose slightly by 0.2 percent. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods gained 0.3 percent.
Changes in volume of external merchandise trade are derived from changes in external merchandise trade value with the effect of price changes discounted.
