MANILA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Philippine administration-backed presidential candidate Manuel "Mar" Roxas II filed Thursday his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Roxas' running mate, Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo, also submitted her COC.
Both Roxas and Robredo were accompanied by their respective families when they formalized their plan to run in the 2016 presidential elections.
Outside the Comelec's main headquarters in Manila were their supporters wearing yellow shirts, the color of the ruling Liberal Party (LP).
Prior to the filing of the COC in nearby Catholic Church, the LP candidates, along with President Benigno S. Aquino III, attended a mass.
Aquino earlier said that he chose Roxas to be his anointed one because he was sure that he will continue the reforms that his administration has initiated under the policy of a "straight path."
Roxas was Aquino's Interior and Local Government Secretary. He was also the president's running mate in the 2010 polls, but he lost to Vice President Jejomar Binay who will also seek the presidency in next year's elections.
