Presidential election in Burkina Faso postponed to late November

OUAGADOUGOU, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Authorities of Burkina Faso on Wednesday announced that the country's highly anticipated presidential and general elections would be postponed from the upcoming Saturday to Nov. 29.

The new schedule of the elections has been agreed upon by all political actors in Burkina Faso, said the Burkina Faso Council of Ministers.

A government of transition returned to power after a failed military coup on Sept. 16. The insurrection forced Blaise Compaore, the former president, to resign from his post in October 2014.

In accordance with the original schedule, based on consensus reached by political forces and civil society organizations of the country, the presidential and general elections would be held on Oct. 11, 2015.
