Big names to compete in badminton Denmark Open

COPENHAGEN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- 2015 Yonex Denmark Open, a BWF World Super Series Premier tournament, opened in Odense, central Denmark, on Tuesday, featuring a strong line-up of world class athletes.

A total of 293 players from across the world attend the tournament offering 600,000 U.S. dollars in prize.

The men's singles event provides a stellar field of competitors, with China's Chen Long, who won the world championships in Denmark last year and won a lot of super series tournaments afterwards, seeded first.

He was followed by Denmark's Jan Oe. Joergensen, who won the tournament in 2010 and won the German Open in March before reaching the final in both the All England and Indonesia Open.

Olympic and world champion Lin Dan of China is seeded third, while former world number one, Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, is ranked 25th.

In the women's draw, top seed Saina Nehwal from India and second seed Spaniard Carolina Marin who won the world championship last year in Denmark and this year in Indonesia, are among the favorites.

The Chinese trio of Li Xuerui, Wang Shixian and Wang Yihan are seeded fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the women's game.

The Denmark Open is among the country's oldest sports events, with the inaugural edition being held in 1935. This year's race takes place from Oct. 13-18.
