SYDNEY, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The authorities have evacuated homes and businesses in the Queensland town of Toowoomba while bomb experts investigate a device found outside of a liquor store in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A Queensland police spokesperson told Xinhua on Tuesday while they cannot confirm what the device is, it is being treated as suspicious with specialist police and the bomb squad currently on the scene.
The authorities were called to the area at 5:20 a.m. local time on Tuesday after a delivery driver reported seeing the device.
The Australian authorities have remained on high alert since 2014 following a spate of terror related incidents in the country, including the shooting of New South Wales police accountant Curtis Cheng by a radicalized 15-year-old boy in early October.
