YANGON, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's first waste-powered plant in Yangon will begin operation and produce electricity in March 2017, official media reported on Monday.
The power plant is estimated to cost 16.2 million U.S. dollars to construct and will convert 60 tons of rubbish every day to generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity, said the Global New Light of Myanmar.
Yangon produces 170 tons of rubbish every day so the plant will reduce emissions of methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
