Local press highlights Uruguay's victory against Bolivia

MONTEVIDEO, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Local media on Friday praised the victory of Uruguay's national soccer team against Bolivia in the South American World Cup Qualifying Tournament in La Paz, capital of Bolivia, where they had never won before.

Uruguay defeated Bolivia with a 2-0 score in the match played Thursday night in Hernando Siles Stadium, in high-altitude La Paz.

Daily El Pais said "Memorable debut for Uruguay. It broke the curse of La Paz's high altitude."

"Uruguay breaks history," said daily El Observador.

Local television broadcast news Subrayado said "Historic victory. With goals by Godin and Caceres, Uruguay won in La Paz," while Montecarlo channel said "Uruguay made history in La Paz."

Daily El Espectador cited Celso Otero, assistant of coach Washington Tabarez, who said "we are in the right path."

Daily La Republica said "Uruguay's tactic was perfect for high altitude."

Sports experts praised the goals scored by Caceres and Godin as well as the good performance of goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.
