DAKAR, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of Senegalese killed in the stampede that occurred on Sept. 24 near Saudi Arabia's Muslim holy city of Mecca has reached 54, Senegal's authorities have said.
Fourteen other Senegalese were still missing, a statement from the disaster management unit for Senegalese pilgrims to Mecca said on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Senegal declared three days of national mourning for the victims of the stampede.
Some 10,500 Senegalese nationals took part in the Hajj pilgrimage this year.
Nearly 1,000 people were killed in the stampede, which broke out after pilgrims gathered at an intersection close to the five-storied Jamarat Bridge.
