Wreckage of Indonesia's missing plane discovered

JAKARTA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The wreckage of a small passenger plane, which went missing on Friday in eastern Indonesia, was found, a local media report quoted a rescue official as saying on Monday.

Deputy for Operational of National Search and Rescue Office ( BASARNAS) Maj. General Heronius Guru said the discovery was reported by local residents.

"People have given report to the head of BASARNAS at the field that the wreckage of the plane has been found," Heronius told Xinhua.

Head of BASARNAS, F.H.B Soelistyo said the wreckage was found at Ulu Salu village of Latimojong sub-district in Luwu district of South Sulawesi province.

"Tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, we will dispatch a helicopter to the scene and check the condition of the area, and then the follow- up work can begin," he told local Metro TV in a live broadcast.

The Twin Otter DHC-6 plane with 10 people aboard lost contact at 0636 GMT on Friday en route from Masamba to Makassar in South Sulawesi province.

People on board the aircraft, operated by Aviastar airline, included a pilot, two technicians and seven passengers.
