BOGOTA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- NATO and the Colombian Defense Ministry on Tuesday started a three-day meeting, seeking to enhance the ministry's mechanisms and effectiveness in preparation for future cooperation.
Five NATO experts were collaborating with the Colombian Defense Ministry to review its practices and transparency and create an integrated environment and good procedures, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting also involves other areas such as control procedures, human resources management, contracting, auditing, planning and budgeting to make them comply with international standards on ethics, discipline, management and accountability, said the statement.
In June 2013, then Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said that Colombia wanted to become a NATO partner, not a full member, as several of its South American neighbors questioned its intention.
