Chinese president back home from U.S. visit, UN summits

BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping returned to Beijing Tuesday after his state visit to the United States and attendance at a series of UN summits.

Xi paid the state visit to the United States from Sept. 22 to 25 at the invitation of U.S. President Barack Obama. He visited the UN headquarters in New York to attend a series of summits to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the world body from Sept. 26 to 28 at the invitation of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- China has an important role to play in realizing global poverty reduction targets, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping's scheduled attendance at the UN Sustainable Development Summit.

"We think it is extremely important that President Xi has decided to come, visit theUnited Statesand also come to this meeting," Kim told Chinese media at the bank's New York office in a group interview on Thursday.Full Story

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he "most warmly" welcomes Chinese President Xi Jinping to a UN summit on sustainable development and to the annual General Assembly high-level debate later this month.

Ban lauded China's great contributions to the world efforts to carry out the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), voicing his hope to see the country's "hugely important role" in implementing the post-2015 development agenda, known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Full Story
