NICOSIA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of Chinese and Cypriot antiquities was opened on Monday at the Archaeological Museum of the southern city of Limassol.
Cypriot Communications and Transport Minister Marios Demetriades, who inaugurated the exhibition, pointed out that relations between Cyprus and China are not new but date back several centuries.
"Discoveries at archaeological excavations in Nicosia and Paphos prove that Cyprus, during the Medieval Age, was receptor of Chinese porcelain, which arrived via the important commercial route which became known as the 'Silk Road'," said Demetriades.
He added that the archaeological findings show that Cyprus is among the first areas of Europe where porcelain was imported.
The exhibition is entitled "Two distant worlds" The Chinese Dynasties of Qin-Han and Roman Cyprus". Chinese exhibits are mainly porcelain, which according to specialists, was discovered during the Qin and Han Dynasties.
"It is a promising fact that the cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as the technology and the economy are today also found on the sector of culture and archaeology," said Demetriades.
