DHAKA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- An Italian national has been shot dead by unknown assailants in Bangladesh capital Dhaka's diplomatic enclave Gulshan on Monday night, police said.
Abdul Ahad, a senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police official, told journalists that "Miscreants shot an Italian national named Travela Ceasar to death at about 7:00 p.m. (local time) on Monday night."
Ceasar, 50, who was shot in the back while jogging along a Gulshan street, has been working for an international organization, he said.
He could not tell further details immediately.
Earlier there was report that the victim was a U.S. national.
The assassination came hours after Bangladesh's Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Monday said, "We've taken all-out security measures ahead of Bangladesh-Australia Test series."
He passed his remarks shortly after meeting the visiting Anti- Corruption and Security Manager of Cricket Australia (CA) Sean Carroll here on Monday afternoon.
Monday's flight of the Australian players to Dhaka has been postponed following the security advice from the Australian government, claiming that they had intelligence of militant groups might target the country's cricket team in Bangladesh after arrival.
