Pilots confirmed dead after aircraft lost contact with Taiwan air force

TAIPEI, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Two pilots are confirmed dead after their AT-3 training aircraft lost contact with air traffic control on Tuesday during a routine training flight, the Taiwan air force said on Saturday.

The bodies were found in the cabin at about 12:50 p.m. Saturday, after the debris from the crash was spotted by a military helicopter in a mountainous areas in central Taiwan.

The jet took off from an air force base in the southern city of Kaohsiung at around 11:55 a.m. Tuesday and lost contact with air traffic controllers 30 minutes later.

A rescue team was dispatched immediately to search for the aircraft and two missing pilot.

The two pilots were Wang Ching-chun, a 32-year-old flight instructor with 1,489 flight hours and Huang Chun-jung, 23 with 116 flight hours.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

Separately in October, 2014, two training planes involving an AT-3 from Taiwan's Air Force Academy collided during a routine training session, killing one pilot.
